Roscommon Ladies Senior Soccer Cup Final
Ballinasloe played Shiven Rovers Ladies in the Cup Final on Saturday 15th
November, despite being the holders Ballinasloe went in to the match as underdogs. The tag of underdogs didn't bother
Ballinasloe as they knew if they played to their potential that the cup was theirs for the taking.
Ballinasloe
started very nervously and probably gave the opposition too much respect, sitting back far to deep. They went in at half time 2 nil down, but were still in the game and they knew they could play much better. Ballinasloe were a different team second half, they played with more confidence and
closed down Shiven quicker. They got some reward early on when Stacey Egan pulled a goal back. Ballinasloe knew that they had to attack more and this made for a very open game with a number of chances
at both ends. Ballinasloe went closest hitting the post, but neither side could
score again and an enjoyable cup final victory went Shiven Rovers. Best for Ballinasloe
were Suzanne Duffy, Aíne Hogan and the outstanding player on the pitch was Aoife Doherty.
Manager Mike Riddle was obviously disappointed in losing a final, but was happy that Ballinasloe did themselves some
justice with their second half performance.
Despite
losing the Final the ladies still deserve great credit for getting there in the first place and coming so close to retaining
the cup. Congratulation girls even through you might not have brought the cup home, you did youselves and the club proud.
